At IVACON 2018, our teachers enjoyed a visit from Professor Graham Welch from University College London (UCL). Professor Welch, an expert in music education, delivered two fascinating lectures on human voice development and the future of vocal education.
In this video, our own Spencer Welch, Director of Education at IVA, caught up with the Professor after his lectures to continue the discourse on music education. They talked about 1) the differences between teaching as a professional and teaching as a parent, 2) the importance of “creative exploration” to build a strong foundation for learning, and 3) how to empower the learner.
As educators, we don’t know what will resonate with each student, and we cannot know what the future may hold. However, we can encourage curiosity, inspire creativity, and equip our students with the tools to explore and enjoy music, helping them find their own path.
