Ariana Grande – Thoughts from an IVA Educator

We asked IVA Education, Kathy Kennedy thoughts about Ariana Grande’s cover of Mariah Carey’s song “Emotions”, here’s what she had to say about her voice:

Ariana Grande’s version of “Emotion” is eerily similar to Mariah Carey’s, and pretty much a copy of it, in terms of phrasing and style. It is obvious that Ariana must emulate Mariah. Mariah’s voice has a bit more heaviness and “bottom end” than Ariana’s voice.  Ariana’s version has a “lighter” feel, even some of her notes come out a little airy, but in general, that lighter feel may keep her from getting into trouble with pushing and straining her voice.

She’s impeccable on the really high notes. Who knows how many takes it took her to get this just right!?

Ariana is definitely a “mixer” and technically is able to move very easily from one area of her voice to another!
